i am insatiable

A poem about desire and burning out, written during my university days.

Stoking a solar flare.

i am insatiable
as a hot star,
bright even in the dark
and boasting light enough to burst,
except shining out so comes first
and i have to start
saving and saving and saving
to burn a bit of maybe
away, today, tomorrow and the next,
i am not going without doing my best,
my insides bubble and i can’t rest,
there is no peace when you want it all
and know it’s simply impossible
without giving more than you have,
the dark leads to better plans
and soon i grow dim
in each and every dusty limb,
waiting, wishing, wanting eyes
on a supernova, suddenly blind
with nothing but the explosion of time,
a trail of glitter and gas left behind,
unnaturally all in, a bittersweet sigh.
